    Hello,

I would like to inform a suggestion to HostHorde about putting and option for a dedicated ip. Even though you guys say people use SRV, it would be really nice you have the dedicated ip option for people who do not want an SRV. I know you guys won't get them over this message I'm posting but if members reply to this saying dedicated ip maybe you will change your mind. I will gladly by an extra $4 a month for the ip. You could just add it to the Unlimited Package if you wanted to.

Thanks and I hope you take my idea into consideration!

I don't think they can because they would have change your IP and all that and probably change your node. I don't know, imagine your dedicated ip being s19.hosthorde.com:25655.

I don't use the stock ip that HostHorde gives me so it would not mater. I own 2 domains for my server.

Then why do you need a dedicated ip when you can use a SRV record.

Well most voting sites do not support SRV so I have to put my point number in. Having an ip with port at the end makes your server look not as professional. Also I would like to have just the domain as the ip. Thats why having a dedicated ip is better.

Voting sites that don't support SRV records need to get their act together.

Minecraft has supported SRV records since 1.3 (that's almost two years ago), and the code for a site to support them is really very simple.

If a voting site doesn't support SRV records, I'd recommend contacting them and linking them to the code @Bryan posted.

In regards to using your domain as the server address, you can do this by creating a SRV record with just "@" in the name field.

    For example:
    srvdomain.png

Alright thanks for the @ for the SRV. I knew you can do that but not on a SRV. I have contacted most of those sites but no response. But I do think you guys should offer some sort of addons. It would make your service a lot more appealing to others.

What I've always had difficulty with figuring out is how to customize the IP so that I could get, for example, "play.terra.net" as my IP. I am currently using 'terra.mc-srv.com' provided through Hosthorde, but all the big successful servers always tend to have the really short and easy to remember ones. Having 'play.terra.net' would be so awesome.

You have to purchase a domain name, then set A/SRV records accordingly to the subdomain you want.

Ah ok, so they actually purchased that separate domain and proceeded with what Daniel just mentioned:
Makes sense. Maybe I'll go find that domain then. :)
